The North Burnett Regional Council commences six weeks of
consultation on its first planning scheme for the entire region. Insite SJC has
prepared the draft planning scheme in close collaboration with Council
representatives, State agencies and other stakeholders.
We understand that it is the first in the State to rely on
the SPP Interactive Mapping for appropriately incorporating several of the
State’s interests. Instead of the costly exercise of preparing maps showing
such feature as agricultural land, bushfire hazard areas, Matters of State
Environmental Significance, and the Stock Route Network, the planning scheme
will rely on an online version of the mapping provided by the State. This also
means that the Council will no longer be burdened with updating the mapping
when needed.
The planning scheme attempts to minimise the regulation
however there are certain expectations set out in the State Planning Policy,
the Queensland Planning Provisions and other planning instruments that add a
level of complexity to the document.
We believe that a combination of Council’s facilitative
culture and reasonable and responsible development assessment under the scheme
will minimise regulatory barriers for development projects in the North
Burnett.
